ZIP codes in an area
Draw a delivery, service or sales area on the map, or open a file with it, and get every ZIP code inside with its population.
By the All Map Tools Team
Example Midtown Manhattan. Drag the points to adjust the area, or tap the small point on a side to add one.
KML, KMZ (Google Earth and Google My Maps), GeoJSON or GPX. It’s read on your device and never leaves it.
Counts the ZIP codes whose interior point (a point the Census Bureau places inside each ZIP area) falls inside your area.

Population: U.S. Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020–2024 5-year estimates, by ZCTA. Areas: TIGERweb (U.S. Census Bureau).
How to use it
Tap the map to place the points of your area’s edge and tap the first one to close it. Then drag the points around, or add more from the middle of each side. If you already have the area in Google Earth, Google My Maps or a GIS program, open it: KML, KMZ, GeoJSON and GPX all work, and if the file has several polygons they’re all used.
Choose which ZIP codes count: the ones whose center is inside, or every one that touches the area. The list has the city, county, state and population of each ZIP code; copy it with commas or one per line, download it as a CSV, and share the link to keep the area you drew.
An example: Midtown Manhattan
The example area runs from 34th to 59th Street, river to river: 2.4 square miles (6.3 km²). 23 ZIP codes have their center inside, home to 133,890 people; the most populated are 10019 (44,942), 10022 (34,049) and 10036 (31,036). Many others have no residents at all: Manhattan has ZIP codes for single office towers.
Center inside or any part inside
A ZIP code isn’t a point: the Census Bureau maps its area (the ZCTA) and places an interior point inside it. With “Center inside”, a ZIP counts when that point falls in your area, which is what most tools of this kind do. With “Any part inside” we ask the Census Bureau’s map service (TIGERweb) which areas touch yours, so you also get the border ZIP codes that are only partly in; they’re marked in the list.
Population is for each whole ZIP code, even when only part of it is inside. To find how many people live exactly inside a circle, use Population in a radius.
ZIP codes with no area
Of the more than 41,000 ZIP codes the Postal Service uses, the Census Bureau maps 33,642 areas. PO box ZIPs, ZIP codes for a single building or a large company, and those created after 2020 have no area. If you need them, tick “Add ZIP codes with no area”: you get 7,335 more, as approximate points from GeoNames (usually the center of their town), and they count only if that point is inside.
What it’s for
Turning a delivery zone, a sales or franchise territory, a service area or the reach of an ad or direct mail campaign into a list of ZIP codes. Since the list includes each ZIP’s population, it’s also handy for comparing territories before you split them up.
Frequently asked questions
Which files can I open?
KML and KMZ (Google Earth and Google My Maps), GeoJSON and GPX. We use their polygons; if there aren’t any, lines are closed as if they were the edge. The file is read on your device and isn’t uploaded anywhere.
How many ZIP codes can I get?
All the ones inside. Above 1,500 we don’t draw their areas, to keep the map responsive, but the list and the CSV have every one.
Why is a ZIP code I know missing?
It has no Census area: it’s usually a PO box or a single-building ZIP code. Tick “Add ZIP codes with no area” to include them.
Is the population just the part inside my area?
It’s each whole ZIP code’s population (ACS 2020–2024). A ZIP that’s only partly inside counts with all of its people.
Can I save the area?
The Copy link button keeps it, unless it has a huge number of points. To draw it and save it as KML or GeoJSON, use the Area calculator.
Does it work in Spain?
For Spain there’s Postal codes in a radius, with one point per postal code from the INE street list.
